Extension type. This hook was designed for the San Francisco fire dept. It is used as a 6' (1" diameter pole) hook for normal work, but add a screw in attachment with a heavy duty stainless steel sleeve and your reach is now 10', 12' or 14' (1 1/4" diameter pole).
